How the two titles were won

2017: 30 points or more in every Finals game

Durant joined the Warriors in 2016, and his first season there ended against LeBron James and Cleveland. He scored 38, 33, 31, 35 and 39 points in the five games, so he never dipped below 30.

The swing moment came in Game 3 in Cleveland: with Golden State down 113-111, he hit a 26-foot three with 45 seconds left for a 114-113 lead, and the Warriors won 118-113.

They closed the series at home with a 129-120 win in Game 5, where Durant had 39 points, six rebounds and five assists.

2018: a sweep and a playoff first

The rematch with Cleveland lasted four games. Durant’s best night was Game 3, a 110-102 road win in which he scored 43 points with 13 rebounds and seven assists.

Two nights later he finished the sweep with 20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in a 108-85 win, the first triple-double of his playoff career.

His series line of 28.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 7.5 assists earned him a second straight Finals MVP.

Durant’s record in the NBA Finals: 2-2. Data as of October 2026.

By the numbers: 15 Finals games and 455 points, or 30.3 a game (455 ÷ 15). In the nine games of his two title series he scored 291 points, 32.3 a game.

The 2012 loss came at 23, when his Thunder won Game 1 and then dropped four straight to LeBron’s Heat. The 2019 Finals is the odd one.

Durant missed the first four games, returned for Game 5 and scored 11 points in 12 minutes before tearing his right Achilles tendon. Golden State won that game 106-105 but lost the series to Toronto in six, so a third straight ring slipped away while he watched.
